1983 - 2016
We currently manufacture the whole 90" Defender range.
The 90 was introduced in 1984 as the successor to the 88". Despite the 90" name the wheel base was increased by almost 5 inches to 93", which gave the car a slightly larger rear load space. This allowed room on the chassis to fit the radius arms and coil spring suspension mounts and was the single biggest improvement made to the range in the whole 70 years of production. Despite this once the chassis had been designed and introduced the basics did not change until production ceased in 2015. Modifications were made to introduce different engines, different radiator and intercoolers and to accomodate changes in fuel tank positions, but the basic chassis design and layout did not change - even the main chassis rails are 25" apart as per the Series 1 chassis. A case of "If it aint broke don't fix it"
When we first approached them back in 2005 they were keen to listen and explore all options. This lead to three very individual Defender based race cars that dominated podiums across Europe in Trophy raid and winch challenge events from 2006 to 2015. These cars also attended events in the USA and Africa where again they showed their pedigree taking podium positions.
We are proud to work with Richards and still use their superb chassis’ to this day on tow cars, show cars and on some of our race cars. They are simply the best Landrover chassis money can buy.
