We manufacture all 130" Defenders.
The 130 was introduced in late 1983. This is a stretched 110 with 17" added to the wheelbase and an additional cross member added in the centre. Despite the 130 name the wheel base is actually 127", having said that there are some 130" wheel base vehicles which tend to reside in Europe. The chassis was originally a "Special Vehicles" product with the original 110 chassis being cut and specially designed extension pieces being added before rejoining. Because of our production techniques we are able to manufacture the rails in one piece, doing away with the joint in the middle of the chassis. Modifications were made to introduce different engines, different radiator and intercoolers and to accomodate changes in fuel tank types, Different body configurations were accomodated for by using bolt on mounting brackets and cross members specific to each body type, but the basic chassis design and layout did not change.
When we first approached them back in 2005 they were keen to listen and explore all options. This lead to three very individual Defender based race cars that dominated podiums across Europe in Trophy raid and winch challenge events from 2006 to 2015. These cars also attended events in the USA and Africa where again they showed their pedigree taking podium positions.
We are proud to work with Richards and still use their superb chassis’ to this day on tow cars, show cars and on some of our race cars. They are simply the best Landrover chassis money can buy.
